IMO, it is essential to have the service manual prior to working on the Elise/Exige, to figure out why your car threw a code, etc. It is very handy to have this information available in digital form, especially in a searchable PDF format. Instructions on how to download the manual from Lotus are buried in a few threads on the forum here, but the threads are very long and it can be difficult to find the instructions that work in the threads. So, to make life easier for everyone. This is the method for obtaining the Lotus Elise/Exige Service Manual, Parts List and TSBs in PDF form from Lotus for $25. Start here:.
Click 'I Agree'. Sign up and pay to be a 'subscriber' by choosing and entering the required information: username, password, email, first and last names. You can obtain everything available with the 24 hour option for $25.00 (first of the three options). You can sign up for longer if you wish to give Lotus more than $25 because you have cash to burn.
Open the email account that you used to register. You should receive an email with your Subscription Receipt for Lotus Tech Info. This sometimes takes a bit of time.
After receiving the email, use this link to get to the download site. Sign in with your user name and password and download away. For those who prefer a hard copy but don't want to pay the $$$ for the official available through the dealership copy, you can download the PDFs from Lotus, have them printed and bound at your local Kinko's. It is not very expensive comparatively to do so. Or you can use them on a laptop in your garage although I personally find that very frustrating and I get in trouble for the grease and grime on the laptop keyboard and monitor.Non-US users, I am sorry but this does not seem to work for you unless you have a US paypal account.

Never mind.I answers my own question. It was a MAC thing.
Just downloaded all the files. I've been building websites for 7 years and I've never seen something that should be organized and labeled in a user friendly manner in such discord, I can’t believe you have to pay for this garbage. To get these in a useable format it’s going to take days of reorganization. I expected Lotus to have a single PDF file for each model year, all in order and ready to go. Their lucky I don’t host it for free on my server and mass email the link to all LT members. Your kidding right?
This is a low volume car not a Honda Civic. If you haven't already noticed everything about the car is going to be low volume, a little 'different' and unpolished compared to any run-off-the-mill vehicle. That is something you just have to live with once you buy a Lotus. Lotus is letting you pay $25 to download all of their service manual documentation. You are paying for the documentation not the website. I don't care if its in ftp, wiki, rainbow colored web links, etc.
As long as I get the manuals, $25 is a steal. Thanks to the OP by the way. These manuals have been well worth it for all the work I've done on the car. Your kidding right? This is a low volume car not a Honda Civic.

Try getting a manual for a newer Porsche 911. The only reason I got mine is because someone had a hookup at a stealership. Otherwise it's thousands a year to use their website. Sent from my Autoguide iPhone app.
I’m uploading the Lotus Elise owner’s manual and the Engine Repair Manual for the Toyota Celica (Toyota 2ZZ engine used in the US Lotus Elise). I can’t upload all of the service shop manuals as those are intellectual property of Lotus Cars LTD (I checked on whether I’m allowed to redistribute). I will however provide instructions on how you can download all of these straight from Lotus. If their website ever closes or they cease to provide these digitally, I will then upload them here. Feel free to download the PDFs and save them to your computer. I sometimes use an iPad to view them while I’m out in the garage or I’ve got a 3-ring binder that I printed them all out and put them in that I will use. If your downloads don’t work for some reason or some of the files are unavailable, shoot me an email using the form below and I’ll see if I can’t find a working copy for you. Also, check out This Thread on LotusTalk and post that you were having issue with a specific PDF and you’ll probably find some people on there willing to help out. A couple guys have even contacted Lotus when they had trouble and were able to get Lotus to extend the 24 hour window for them to download the files again.
